Read the book “Diversity of cotton arthropods and management methods” (‘Diversité des arthropodes du cotonnier et modalités de gestion des ravageurs’) published by Quae.

In a few words :

M.SILVIE and Bernard Papierok, a former researcher at the Pasteur Institute, have written a book aimed at professionals (producers, cotton companies, NGOs, etc.), scientists and teacher-researchers:

The book deals with methods of managing and controlling cotton arthropod pest populations in relation to their diversity and that of their natural enemies, predators, parasitoids and micro-organisms. It is based in part on an analysis of situations in African and South American countries. Pests, their damage, their natural enemies and the biological regulation they exert are presented. The losses incurred are described. The methods used to protect cotton are described, in relation to the various concepts associated with integrated protection or plant health, with the emphasis on the limitations of the techniques available depending on the socio-economic context. The book also deals with two current approaches to cotton production: organic cotton growing and the use of insect-resistant transgenic varieties. Finally, it looks at the overall management of pests outside the cultivated plot.
