AFCOT 2022 5 Notre Monde a toujours été une terre nourricière, productrice, protectrice. Aujourd’hui, le coton demeure une des premières économies agricoles mondiale pour la valeur de sa production. Mais, l’industrie cotonnière, producteurs, négociants, filateurs, fournis- seurs… sont les passeurs d’un savoir-faire, d’une tradition qui s’inscrit dans notre patrimoine, indissociable de notre identité, et même de notre art de vivre. Bien sûr, les modèles agricoles, économiques, durables évoluent ; et cette adaptation s’impose à toute l’humanité. Ainsi, chaque année, au forum de l’AFCOT, l’industrie cotonnière dans son ensemble fait la fierté de notre association, entre tradition et modernité, pleinement consciente des enjeux. Et cette année encore, nous avons été à vos côtés, tant ces moments de partage et d’accompagnement ont pris une importance réaffirmée par les privations/difficultés collectives de la pandémie. Enfin, un clin d’œil : pour cette édition cotonnière 2022/2023, et dont les articles sont un rappel, peut-être, des contradictions desquelles nous devons nous extirper dans « l’après », entre fragilité des équilibres de vie et l’abondance à laquelle nous avons trop cru. À parcourir les ren- contres lors des forums de l’AFCOT, année après année, je sais que nous disposons des ressources pour y parvenir, et d’abord humaines, dont la richesse ne cesse de m’épater. Bonne lecture à tous. Our world has always been a nourishing, producing, and protective land. Today, cotton remains one of the world’s leading agricultural economies in terms of production value. But the cotton industry, producers, traders, spinners, suppliers... are the car- riers of a know-how, of a tradition that is part of our heritage, inseparable from our identity, and even from our art of living. Of course, agricultural, economic and sustainable models are evolving; and this adaptation is imposed on all humanity. Thus, every year, at the AFCOT forum, the cotton industry as a whole is the pride of our association, between tradition and modernity, fully aware of the issues. And this year again, we have been by your side, so much so that these moments of sharing and support have taken on an importance reaffir- med by the collective deprivation/difficulties of the pandemic. Finally, a wink: for this 2022/2023 cotton edition, and whose articles are a reminder, perhaps, of the contradictions from which we must extricate our- selves in the «aftermath», between the fragility of life’s balances and the abundance in which we have believed too much. Going through the mee- tings during the AFCOT forums, year after year, I know that we have the resources to achieve this, and first of all human resources, whose richness never ceases to amaze me.
